Kabukicho (Page 4)
Afternoon, alcohol-free open house provides luxurious backdrops, chance to chat and snap photos with hosts.
The best at encouraging clients to spend money, he rakes in as much as US$375,000 per month.
The unusually-named restaurant battles against the robots of Kabukicho with spooky spirits and staff that look like creepy androids.
It turns out that life ain’t so bad for a single lady when she’s in the company of these handsome hosts.
Put the money you would have spent on sleeping in a fancier room towards a longer stay in Japan at this Shinjuku hotel.
Mr. Sato takes the plunge and follows the promise of a super-cheap haircut into the unknown.
The celebrity couple drew attention as they shopped and strolled around the streets of Tokyo this weekend.
There’re a lot of reasons to want to visit Shinjuku Kakekomi Gyoza, but their importance goes even beyond the vast range of savory dumplings.
The Internet can’t decide whether this is insanely cute or a prime example of terrible parenting.
Use a Japanese sword and throw shuriken stars like a ninja for less than ten bucks in the heart of Tokyo!
We sent six of our most dashing writers to a photo studio for some glamour shots at an appearance in the new Yakuza 6 video game.
Everyone’s favourite tokusatsu titan has a very important message for the people of Shinjuku this week.
The attraction will task guests with navigating a compound using their wits and spy skills and will even feature a laser tripwire obstacle course. A LASER TRIPWIRE OBSTACLE COURSE!
Police were luckily able to return all the fighters to Adventure Mode before any serious injuries were sustained.
A bizarre death occurred in the Kabukicho area of Shinjuku, Tokyo recently as a 22-year-old woman died after falling nine stories during a visit to the restroom. Although suicide hasn’t been entirely ruled out, this appears to be a case of highly unusual building practices as a door opening onto a sheer drop was also present in the room.
Always on the pulse of new restaurant openings, Mr. Sato hit the streets of Kabukicho to try out a new grilled chicken (yakitori) establishment. It was opened in conjunction with Jiromaru, a barbecued beef place much loved by our reporter for its small portions but interesting variety of cuts.
Because of the association with Jiromaru, Mr. Sato’s expectations were high for Sumibi Yakitori Suda Shoten. However, as he approached the menu posted in front, one item in particular shocked the man whom we thought unflappable after attempting to eat a cheeseburger with over 1,000 strips of bacon.
It was a breaded chicken cutlet but written in parentheses was “half-raw.” Sure, steaks are often ordered in such a way, but chicken?! And so Mr. Sato, who doesn’t know the meaning of “salmonella,” went in to try some out.
Meet Naoki. He pulls down US$30,000 a month, has his own TV show and music group, and is called “an ideal man” by one of his many woman clients. Is he some kind of doctor or finance wizard to be making that kind of dough? Nope, he’s a host, one of scores of men that work in the seedy bars of Kabukicho, drinking with the ladies of the capital and charging them for the privilege.
A new video by VICE Japan takes a look at Naoki’s bizarre and booze-soaked world.
