This is the first time ever for Sanrio’s cute cat to team up with a western-made film.
Over the years, Hello Kitty has created a name for herself as one of the hardest working characters in the business. She’s been seen looking over construction sites, appearing on coins, and fronting her very own cafes and restaurants all around the world.
Instead of resting those tiny feet on days off, Hello Kitty gets them into some cosplay costumes during her down-time, dressing up as characters like a gun-slinging schoolgirl and Sadako from Japanese horror flick The Ring. Now she’s found a new character to emulate, and this time it’s the iconic female superhero Wonder Woman.

While Japanese fans of the DC heroine still have a long wait ahead of them before the new Wonder Woman film debuts here on 25 August, Hello Kitty is here to charm us all in the meantime with her take on the star. Keeping her signature red bow intact, the cute character mascot now sports a long, luscious mane of raven-coloured hair, complete with tiara, skintight bodysuit, knee-high boots and the golden Lasso of Truth.
▼ The official Twitter account for the Wonder Woman movie in Japan approves of Kitty’s style, calling her “The strongest beautiful warrior”.

According to Sanrio, this is the first time ever for Hello Kitty to join forces with a non-Japanese movie character, and to celebrate, customers who purchase advance tickets for the film, which go on sale from 17 June, will receive a rubber key-holder of Hello Kitty in her Wonder Woman disguise, or a reprint of the 1941 DC Comic where Wonder Woman was first introduced.
Patty Jenkins, the director of the new Wonder Woman film, is said to be overjoyed with the new collaboration. Being a big fan of Hello Kitty herself, news reports have quoted her saying, “It’s really wonderful that everyone’s beloved Hello Kitty is taking the lead for Wonder Woman”.
Though cynics might say this Hello Kitty charm offensive is all part of the cute and girly way that Wonder Woman is being marketed in Japan, fans of both characters are giving the new tie-up promotion a big thumbs-up, counting down the days until they can get their hands on the unique merchandise.
While there’s no word yet on the full range of Wonder Woman x Hello Kitty merchandise on its way to coincide with the film’s release, knowing how hard the character cat works to make everything and everyone look good, we have no doubt that it will be all kinds of awesome.
